Anglican Diocese of Grahamstown

Anglican Church of Southern Africa

 Diocesan Development Trust

Invitation to the Launch of the Grahamstown Diocese Development Trust

The Venerable BTM Mfenyana, Archdeacon to the Ordinary, writes:

The purpose of the Trust is to enable the Diocese to fulfil its Vision and Mission. As we all know, our church and Diocese face the same challenges faced by organizations in the circular world. Its congregants are mainly poor people, retired people and the youth. In 2008 the Bishop undertook a study of the giving trends measured by the ability of parishes to pay their assessments to the Diocese. More than half of the parishes struggle to do so citing the economy, unemployment and migration of people.

The Diocese is the second oldest in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. It has given birth to 4 other Diocese. This had an adverse effect on the finances of the Diocese. Be that as it may we are confident that the people of God will continue to support us as we struggle through this difficult time.

This Trust will be focussing on raising funds from individuals, organizations, government and donors. We believe that the generosity of our people will enable us to raise funds for, among others, Education of the Clergy and church leadership, upkeep of our properties, building of churches and rectories, administration of the Diocese, welfare of the clergy.
